The Basque Government will organise the Languages Lanean Congress in Bilbao in 2024
· The purpose of the Congress is to focus on the challenges relating to language management in the working environment, and will involve both local and international stakeholders.
· Two days, two venues: 18th January at the Euskalduna Palace and 19th January at the Guggenheim Museum.
· The Congress will be open to the general public, and registration has now commenced.
The Department of Culture and Language Policy of the Basque Government and the Department of Economic Development, Sustainability and Environment will organise Languages Lanean Congress | Challenges of language management in economic activity in 2024. This two-day event will take place in Bilbao, on the 18th of January at the Euskalduna Palace and on the 19th of January at the Guggenheim Museum. The key objectives of the congress are to highlight the importance of language management in the workplace and to disseminate best practices in advanced language management in the socio-economic field.
The development of both workspaces and economic activities has increased the complexity of language management challenges. In view of this, the Languages Lanean Congress aims to provide a platform for learning from experience, sharing knowledge and debating. In terms of language use, the Congress will prioritise Basque and will offer the possibility of following the Congress in Spanish, English and French.
Speakers
In this first edition, the focus will be on representatives of public and private institutions. It will bring together delegations from local and international institutions in the capital of Bizkaia, including experts in the field of culture. The Congress will also feature debates on issues affecting the public and private sectors and sectoral round tables.
The Congress will begin on Thursday 18th January with presentations by representatives of leading international organisations and companies. Among others, there will be representatives from the European Union, the Mondragon Corporation, Kone and the Norwegian Business School. In the afternoon, there will be eight round tables to discuss future challenges. Among the participants will be representatives from the Basque Government's Directorate of Education and Educational Innovation, the Basque Parliament, Osakidetza, the Generalitat and Bergara City Council; in the cultural field, the Tolosa Choir, the Guggenheim Museum, the Basque National Symphony Orchestra, the Durango Fair, Itziar Ituño and Estibaliz Urresola will be taking part; in the field of education, the University of the Basque Country, Mondragon University, the Miguel Altuna School and the IKA euskaltegi will attend; the financial institutions Bankoa-Abanca and Laboral Kutxa; and other entities such as the Euskalgintza Council, Elhuyar, Goiener, Eroski, Bilbao Metro and the Matia Foundation. The list of participants will be finalised in the coming weeks.

The Languages Lanean Congress will be open to the general public, to which all employers, employees, customers and/or suppliers who want to share their concerns and knowledge about the use of language in the workplace are invited.
